Looking for a new electric steriliser to help make your life easier without breaking the bank? Then you’ve come to the right place!

We’ve teamed up with Emma’s Diary to put the award-winning MAM 6-in-1 electric steriliser and bottle warmer through its paces – and it turns out it’s way more than just an electric steriliser!

Having welcomed our lockdown baby Violet Hope right at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and with her brother and sisters going back to school and nursery as lockdown is lifted my number one priority now is making sure everything at home is as clean as it possibly can be.

As a mum of four anything that helps make my life a little bit easier gets the thumbs up from me, and the MAM 6-in-1 electric steriliser and bottle warmer promises to do just that with a host of clever features in one.

I’m exclusively breastfeeding Violet and at 10-weeks-old we’re still not in a routine on the feeding front so I always leave a bottle of expressed milk when I go out for a run or pop to the shops just in case she needs a top up while I’m gone, making sterilising bottles and warming milk essential.

MAM 6-in-1 electric steriliser & bottle warmer review

MAM pride themselves on designing products to help make parents’ lives easier and the 6-in-1 electric steriliser and express bottle warmer is an all-singing, all-dancing bit of kit.

What’s in the box?

You’ll get:

  • An electric steam steriliser, the top of which can be used as a microwave steriliser and the base of which can be used as a bottle/food warmer
  • 1 x Easy Start anti-colic bottle (it’s got a valve in the base to stop the formation of bubbles)
  • 1 x Start soother
  • 1 pair of plastic tongs

The first thing to strike me about the 6-in-1 steriliser is the size: it doesn’t take up masses of room on the worktop and I could tuck it nicely into a corner in our kitchen.

It’s really easy to set up and assemble with pictures accompanying the instructions – a must for a sleep deprived mama in the fug of new motherhood like me!

What makes MAM’s 6-in-1 electric steriliser different from others on the market?

Clever features include:

  • It’s an electric steam steriliser, microwave steriliser & express bottle warmer in one
  • You can sterilise up to six bottles & accessories in one go
  • It sterilises in just five minutes
  • It warms bottles in two & a half minutes
  • You can also use it to defrost & warm food, so it will last you well into weaning & beyond
  • It automatically switches itself off when done
  • Items are sterile for 48 hours
  • It’s got a Made for Mums gold award for the best steriliser

How does it work?

To use the electric steriliser you simply add tap water to a well in the base, clip a plastic cover over the well and fit the plastic drum over that (if you have a look at my Instagram stories you’ll see it in action!)

Inside there are two baskets – a lower basket for bottles and an upper basket for teats and accessories.

Then you simply select the sterilising programme and switch the steriliser on. The upper plastic drum can also be used as a microwave steriliser, while the electric steriliser base doubles up as both a bottle warmer (please note you should always heat milk with the teat and bottle top removed) and to defrost and warm food.

How much does it cost?

The MAM 6-in-1 electric steriliser comes with a price tag of £90 but there are deals to be found: at the time of writing (July 2020) it’s £89.99 at John Lewis so it’s worth shopping around.

My verdict:

The MAM 6-in-1 electric steriliser won a Made for Mums gold award in 2018 and I can see why: it’s a multi-use gadget that’s easy to set up and operate and won’t take up masses of room on your kitchen worktop. At £90 I think this is a great value steriliser and the fact the steriliser can also be used to defrost and warm food is a bonus for me as it means it will last us well into toddlerhood and beyond. But the best bit for me has to be the fact you can work it one handed while jigging your baby with the other!
