On the hunt for a new electric breast pump or know someone who is?

Want to know what to expect from Tommee Tippee’s latest offering and whether it’s worth parting with your hard earned cash? Then you’ve come to the right place!

As a first time mum it can be so hard navigating your way through what you need and what you don’t, what’s good and what’s not and what’s worth spending your money on and what isn’t – and let’s face it there’s quite a lot that it turns out you actually don’t need or use at all!

After four babies and a combined six years of exclusive breastfeeding (and counting!) I’d like to think I’m well placed in saying that if you’re breastfeeding too one of the things you really do need is an electric breast pump, especially if you’re planning on returning to work while you’re still nursing.

So, when Tommee Tippee got in touch and asked me to try out their new Made for Me single electric breast pump, which has had rave reviews and is said to be one of the quietest on the market, I was intrigued.

Tommee Tippee Made for Me breast pump review

I’ve pumped milk with all four of my babies and used a number of breast pumps in my time, both manual and electric.

This time around I started pumping three weeks after Violet arrived, mainly so I could start running again and be safe in the knowledge I can leave a bottle in case she needs a top up while I’m gone.

Whatever the reason – whether you’re pumping so you can fit in some exercise, to help establish milk supply, so you can leave someone else to do the night shift or you’re going back to work – in my experience the three most important things you need in a breast pump are comfort, efficiency and reliability.

The Tommee Tippee Made for Me has repeatedly been described as the ‘best breast pump ever’ by other mums, so I was interested to find out what all the fuss is about.

What’s in the box?

You will get:

  • 1 x electric breast pump
  • 1 x power unit
  • 1 x 150ml bottle with slow flow teat

You’ll also find positive affirmations on the packaging when you open the lid which I thought was a really nice touch!

How does the Tommee Tippee Made for Me electric breast pump work?

The pump is really easy to set up and use. It comes with a USB cable so you can either use it straight away plugged in at the mains or charge it up so you can use it cord free on the sofa.

A massage mode mimics your baby’s latch to stimulate your let down reflex, using 10 short ‘pulses’ followed by one longer pump. Once your milk starts flowing you can switch to express/pump mode to express your feed, all the while controlling the power with the + and – buttons.

What makes the Made for Me breast pump different?

There are a number of clever features making the Made for Me different from other pumps on the market, including:

  • A gentle, cushioned silicone cup (as opposed to a hard plastic one)
  • Multi massage modes (to mimic your baby’s latch)
  • Multi express modes (so you can find a level that’s comfy for you)
  • Cord free with USB rechargeable power point (so you can express wherever you want)
  • More than 60 minutes of battery power
  • LED timer to keep track of expressing time

One of my favourite features has to be the super soft silicone cup which is so gentle and moulds to your breast in a way a hard plastic one just can’t.

I also love the fact I can use it anywhere in the house without needing to be near a plug socket, from the comfort of the sofa…

How much does it cost?

The new Tommee Tippee Made for Me single electric breast pump comes with an rrp of £135 but there are bargains to be had: at the time of writing (June 2020) it’s £121.50 at John Lewis and just £67.50 – that’s half the price – at Boots.

My verdict:

As a brand Tommee Tippee’s mantra is a promise to ‘do the thinking for you’ and they really have with this breast pump. It’s easy to use, it boasts some really thoughtful features like the soft silicone cup which is really gentle and best of all it’s the quietest pump I’ve ever used, meaning I can express while feeding without disturbing the baby.

Whether you’re pumping for the first time or the fourth time like me I think the Made for Me is money well spent and a pump you can rely on to see you through your breastfeeding journey. And I have to say it’s the best breast pump I’ve ever used too!

I was gifted the breast pump and Sleepee basket featured in this post. As always all opinions are my own and based on my own honest experience.
