With the middle one starting school in September the cost of back to school shopping in our house has doubled this year, and it won’t be long before it triples with the youngest starting school too.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve inwardly cursed at the state of the oldest’s (expensive) high street school shoes just weeks after buying them – scuffed, chipped and looking like they’ve seen better days despite being almost brand new. They sent us a pair of their Madrid boys leather school shoes (£45) for the middle one, and I’ll be really interested to see how they fare over the next few months compared to his sister’s high street ones.
Made using a ‘strobel’ technique, where the upper part of the shoe is placed into a mould and the sole is then injected around it creating one unit without the need for gluing to create a really strong bond, the shoes come with dual fit technology, so you can take out a pad at the bottom to allow for a wider fit and greater depth.
They’re made with Permair leather, making them soft and breathable, and are ‘touch fasten’ with straps so there are no laces to contend with. This one put them on himself without any help and as you can see, they certainly look indestructible!
He’s been wearing them in at home and we’ve been down to the beach a few times too so he can get used to walking and playing in them, and mightily proud of them he is too!
Whether they really are indestructible remains to be seen, but let’s put it this way: they’re certainly made of sturdy stuff and I wouldn’t like him treading on my toes while wearing them!
