I’ve been blogging for eight years now and if there’s one thing I’ve learnt during that time it’s that the world of blogging is constantly changing and evolving.

If you want to monetise your blog it’s important to keep up with all the latest platforms and trends, and it’s also important to keep your site looking as sleek and professional as possible.

So, how can you make sure your blog is looking as good as it possibly can be without spending a fortune on design and branding? In this collaborative post here are 5 free ways!

5 free ways to make your blog look more professional

1. Make sure your content is squeaky clean

By which I mean spell check and proof read everything – twice! There’s nothing worse than copy littered with typos and grammatical errors, and there’s nothing more likely to put readers and potential clients off. Check and double check before you hit publish!

2. Display your blog stats

By displaying your blog stats you can tell readers and potential clients everything they need to know about your traffic and your reach in a nutshell. For example, Statpix is a free tool which creates images using data pulled from your Google Analytics. There are different templates to choose from depending on the information you’d like to display, ranging from demographics to engagement, and you can customise the colour, font and border of the image to fit your blog style. You can then simply copy the URL and insert the image on your blog, and it will automatically update daily to display your latest stats. Here are mine in all their glory!

3. Shout about your achievements

If your blog ranks in an index or directory relevant to your niche, or if your content has earnt you a featured blogger badge from another site, make sure you shout about these credentials on your homepage. I display mine on my blog sidebar so they’re there for all to see and they’re sure to capture the attention of any potential client visiting my site.

4. Hook up your social channels

As well as your stats and any achievements as a blogger, it’s also a good idea to highlight your social reach. There are free plugins to link to most social media platforms from your blog including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube. Remember the more present you are across all platforms, the more engaged and professional you appear.

5. Be consistent

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – consistency is key when it comes to being a professional blogger. Like typos and grammatical errors, there’s nothing worse and more likely to switch readers and potential clients off than visiting a blog that hasn’t been updated in weeks. Posting regularly just once a week is better than trying to post two or three times a week but then finding yourself swamped and overloaded resulting in you not posting anything at all.
