Hands up who’s looking forward to 2021?

I don’t know about you but I won’t be sorry to see the back of 2020 – and hopefully all the home learning grids and ten million snacks a day that came with it!

things to look forward to

With the new year upon us and many of us once again living under lockdown restrictions I thought I’d cheer things up a bit with some things to look forward to in 2021 – and once I got started it turns out there’s actually quite a lot!

So, if you’re looking ahead to the new year with mixed emotions here are 10 things to look forward to in 2021 – and almost all of them can’t be changed by Covid!

10 things to look forward to in 2021!

1. The Quadrantids Meteor Shower

The Quadrantids is what’s known as an ‘above average’ shower, with up to 40 meteors per hour at its peak. It’s thought to be produced by dust grains left behind by an extinct comet, and the shower runs annually from January 1 – 5. This year it peaks on the night of the 2nd and morning of the 3rd and according to the experts the best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight, with meteors appearing anywhere in the sky.

2. Joe Biden assuming the US presidency

I usually steer clear of politics on here but on this occasion I’ll make an exception: America’s new term of office begins at 12 noon on January 20 and Joe Biden is expected to be inaugurated soon afterwards, along with Kamala Harris, the first female and first black Vice President of America.

3. Alison Hammond on This Morning

Having spent more hours than I can count chained to the sofa breastfeeding ITV’s This Morning has been a friend that has helped get me through – and I clapped my hands when I heard Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary are replacing Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford for the Friday slot in 2021. If you haven’t seen Alison on TV before she’s hilarious (Google her interview with Harrison Ford and you’ll see what I mean!) She’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face whatever the weather!

4. The Tokyo Olympics

This was on my list of things to look forward to in 2020, and after being postponed owing to Covid officials have confirmed the games will go ahead from July 23 – August 8. And I don’t know about you but I just loving following it all on TV!

5. A ban on single use plastic

The European Union’s ban on single use plastic is expected to come into force in July, and although we’re no longer a member of the EU the UK is expected to follow suit in October. Which is a win win for the environment.

6. Stranger Things Season 4

There’s no official release date yet (at the time of writing the powers that be are predicting October) but it’s definitely coming at some point this year – and that’s good enough for me!

7. Gary Barlow on tour

Take That have had to shelve any plans to tour in 2021 but all is not lost: Gary Barlow is set to take Music Played by Humans on the road in June – and there are still tickets available, so get in quick if you want to go!

8. The Friends Reunion

There’s been lots of speculation but Matthew Perry has confirmed on Twitter that filming is due to start in March – and the resulting reunion is expected to be released in 2021. And as Chandler would say, could that BE any more exciting?!

9. Spider-Man 3

It’s almost a year away but the saying goes good things come to those who wait: Spider-Man 3 starring Tom Holland is currently scheduled for release in the UK on December 17 – so just in time for Christmas!

10. Life getting back to some sort of normal

The more all this goes on the more I wonder if we’ll ever go back to how we were before, but I’m holding on to the hope that a year from now things will be a lot more ‘normal’ than they are now. Of course only time will tell, but in the meantime watch this space, join us for whatever does unfold in 2021 and happy new year!
