Glamping.Β The chances are, however glam and no matter how much Cath Kidston has been thrown at it, swapping four walls for some sort of temporary structure in the woods with kids in tow is either your idea of holiday heaven or holiday hell.

Either way it’s the kind of holiday memories are made of.

10 reasons to take kids glamping

Last week I took a littleΒ blogging break and decamped to a field in Sussex where we went yurting for the very first time (no idea if yurting is an actual word…)

Just an hour from our front door we might as well have been in another world – think no electricity, compost toilets (not as yucky as they sound), cooking over fire and star gazing as the sun goes down.

The kids loved it, which meant we did too, so today I’m bringing you 10 reasons to take kids glamping.

10 reasons to take kids glamping

1. You get furniture. So if trying to get comfy on a squeaky airbed isn’t your thing or you’ve got a baby who needs feeding in the night you can actually sleep in a proper bed.

2. Less washing. With a bit of luck if the weather’s good they can run around with no clothes on, but even if it’s not the lack of washing machine means you make things last as long as possible, instead of chucking them in the dirty laundry basket at the first drop of chocolate ice cream.

3. Less wiping. Because there’s no such thing as crumbsΒ andΒ spillagesΒ on grass – just one of the ways parenting is easier in summer.

4. They’ll offerΒ to help with chores. Ask them to clear up at home and they run a mile, but for some reason the prospect of washing up with a hose in the woods or sweeping down decking with a broom has them tripping over themselves to help out.

5. The chances are you’ll be off-grid. No TV + no computer games + no plug sockets + no lights at the flick of a switch = one valuable lesson!

6. It’ll fire their imagination. With no TV or electronic devices to rely on you’ve got no choice but to make your own fun, like concocting magic potions for fairies and playing with water in a bucket.

7. You have no concept of time. You go to bed when it gets dark, you wake up when it gets light and you eat when you’re hungry.

8. You get to cook over fire. And who doesn’t enjoy doing that?

9. You’ll eat together. At home we rarely eat at the same time – the kids have their tea before Misery Guts gets home from workΒ andΒ weΒ have ours after they’ve gone to bed. And you know what they say – a family that eats together stays together.

10. You’ll create memories that last a lifetime. A bit like LaplandUK and Thomas Land, glamping was so far removed from what we usually do I’m sure the kids will remember it forever.
