One of the first blog posts I ever wrote was about my new plastic glasses being the thin end of the wedge. Four years on, having just celebrated our 4th blogiversary, not much has changed.

With two kids now in tow and one on the way I’m still sporting plastic glasses owing to the fact there’s no point splashing out hundreds of pounds on things that will only get broken, and I couldn’t afford to anyway.

How to pick the perfect pair of glasses

But what has changed is the way you shop for them. Due to the aforementioned kids, hiding behind my computer with a mouse is far preferable to actually taking them shopping – especially somewhere like an opticians where all they want to do is try all the glasses on.

Here’s an actual screengrab from myΒ WhatsApp the last time Misery Guts went glasses shopping.

So when Perfect Glasses got in touch to see if I’d like toΒ have a new pair of glasses delivered to my door by choosing glasses online from the comfort of my own home IΒ jumped at the chance.

How to pick the perfect pair of glasses

I had no idea onlineΒ glasses shopping could be such fun! Perfect Glasses offer both prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses which you can actually try on by uploading a picture of your face and clicking on the different styles.

You can adjust the size of the frames so you know what they’re going to look like, and share on Facebook and Twitter if you want a second (or 100th) opinion. I must admit I got a bit carried away with this – sadly Audrey Hepburn I am not!

There are literally hundreds of styles to choose from, from standard frames from just Β£9 to designer glasses from the likes of Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Yves Saint Laurent, many of which are half price.

After spending more time than I care to admit virtually β€˜trying’ on glasses, I chose a black and pink pair by Soul, which usually cost Β£38 but are currentlyΒ on sale forΒ Β£19.

Here’s what my computer said they’d look like.

And here’s what they actually look like.

A pretty good match I think!

All I had to do was send Perfect Glasses my prescription and my glasses arrived a few days later in a nice shiny box with a cleaning cloth. I was surprised at the quality given the price, and also by how well they fitted given I usually need glasses adjusted in some way when I get them from the optician.

So that’s it, I’ll be glasses shopping from home from now on. Have you ever bought orΒ ‘tried on’ glasses online? How did you get on?
