It’s been two years (two years!) since we were last asked to review Drusillas Zoo & Park near Alfriston so the nice people there asked if – now that we’re a family of four – we’d like to come back again and see what the park has to offer.

Of course now that we have two children such outings are a different kettle of fish, with two little people – often running in opposite directions – to please instead of just one. So I was interested to see how we’d get on.

Family days out in East Sussex Drusillas Park

Drusillas is famous for three things: its Thomas the Tank Engine train, which weaves on a continual loop through the park, Hello Kitty World and its small zoo – which is actually rather large. Basically there’s a bit of everything to suit all ages.

Being four and into anything pink BB made a beeline for Hello Kitty World first, where you’ll find a collection of baby-friendly rides including cars and tea cups.

We went on a bank holiday Monday in May and because they weren’t busy and there were no queues for the rides they let us go round and round on them to our heart’s content. I had to physically prise Little B’s fingers from the steering wheel of our Hello Kitty car when it was time to get out!

And if you’re lucky and time it right you might even get to meet Hello Kitty herself!

If you need a bit of a sit down you can hop on and hop off Thomas the Tank Engine from a ‘real’ Tidmouth Hault station, and en route you’ll see characters including Cranky the Crane, James and the fat controller.

We always seem to end up doing the rides and the park first, and the zoo last – although you can easily choose in which order to do things.

The meerkats and penguins (which you can feed) are favourites of ours, and there’s also a rather cute collection of monkeys to see too.

I didn’t do a very good job of capturing pictures of the animals on camera (getting the kids to smile and pose was hard enough!) so there’s only one thing for it: you’ll have to go and see for yourself!

We’ve made a little vlog to show you what you can expect at Drusillas – it’s under a minute long so it’s a quick snapshot into what to expect from a day there.

Cost-wise you’re looking at around £50 for a family of four with one child under two, but there are a variety of ticket options and if you buy online there are offers to be had. You could save some money by taking your own picnic (there are lots of picnic tables) but there’s also a canteen which is really reasonably priced with plenty of healthy options.
