If your living room is in need of a bit of TLC but you’re short on time – and money – owing to having little people around then you’ve come to the right place.
I don’t know about you but what with the small matter of a global pandemic we’ve spent more time at home this year than ever before – and it’s made me realise just how much our living space could do with an update!
With the exception of our bathroom, which we recently replaced with a new one, every other room in our flat could do with attention, especially the living room which is where everyone naturally gravitates.
Of course, revamping a living room is easier said than done, so, in this collaborative post here are 6 easy living room updates you can do in just one weekend!
6 living room updates you can do in a weekend
1. Focus on your lighting
If your living room space is filled with mismatched lamps, dull overhead lights and dark, shadowy corners then the solution is simple β LED light bulbs. These small but effective lighting options can instantly transform your living room, bringing it into the 21st century with stylish and elegant lighting solutions. Not only do LED bulbs fill your home with light, but you’ll also benefit from longer-lasting bulbs, better efficiency and cheaper electricity bills too. From traditional options to decorative styles, spotlights, dimmable options, downlights and wall fixtures, you’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch sooner!
2. Repaint your skirting boards
When was the last time you gave your skirting boards some TLC? Skirting boards keep our walls protected from scuffs and scrapes from moving furniture, and they also make rooms much more decorative by creating a ‘finished’ look. However, over time they start to look dull, tired and grimy. A quick wash with hot water or a lick of paint will bring some instant life back into a tired living room leaving it looking brighter and fresher.
3. Overhaul your windows
Cleaned your windows recently? Dirty, grimy windows can make a room dark and they also look unsightly. If you have tired old curtains or dusty, broken blinds then consider investing in some new window dressings for your living room. A high-quality pair of curtains or a fully bespoke set of shades can add instant quality to your living space and make it look homely and welcoming.
4. Create a gallery wall
Got lots of old photographs at home? Or unprinted favourites in your smart device? Why not spend a weekend updating your living room walls with a fun and super simple gallery wall project? Creating a gallery wall of all your favourite moments gives your living room a personal and homey feel, which is ideal if youβre currently living in rented accommodation or youβre working with a small space.
5. Bring nature indoors
There’s nothing like fresh flowers to add an element of elegance and finery to your home. Or some gorgeous house plants for a touch of freshness. If you’re not green-fingered and you’d rather have something a little more cost-effective, choose a faux option instead. Plants and flowers make any home look welcoming and comfortable, and their impact is instantaneous.
6. Clean!
The best way to make a quick and easy change to your living room in just one weekend is to give everything a deep clean. Banishing dirt, dust and grime from your living space will give it a new lease of life and an instant lift.

I nodded along all the way through your post, because we need to do all these things. The bathroom and kitchen renovation has kicked up do much dust that no matter what you do, it just keeps coming… and, in every room too. Thank you for sharing these ideas over on the #DreamTeamLinky xx
Cleaning and tidying would make such a difference but so tricky now I am working 30+ hours a week! We have some new photo canvases to go up but not found time yet π Thanks for linking up with #dreamteamlinky
Great ideas. My living room definitely needs some attention, but a full-on overhaul from when we moved in. But no point when we have two three year olds sticking sellotape everywhere and drawing all over the walls! #KCACOLS
There are some great ideas there. We have started a full on renovation of the back of our house. It has been planned for years, but I think lockdown number one made us realise we needed to do it now! #DreamTeamLinky
Some great ideas here – love a gallery wall too! Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next time!
