10 things you didn't know

I’m scared of the dark and should have sat on the sofa in my pyjamas more whilst on maternity leave.

Those are among 10 things you (probably) didn’t know about me, which Catie aka An Imperfect Mum has asked me for today’s post.

It’s a tag doing the rounds at the moment and as well as being a bit of fun it’s a great way to learn a little bit more about fellow bloggers.

Here are Catie’s questions and my answers:

1. Who do you admire the most and why?

Yikes – this is quite a question. My Granny is quite admirable – at 94 she’s still in her own home, can tell you everything that’s happening in Coronation Street and is extremely quick witted and funny. If I’m like her when I’m 94 I’d be quite happy.

2. Do you have any hidden talents?

I can write down everything you say word for word in shorthand. As a journalist shorthand is an invaluable tool because it means you won’t miss that killer quote, and the personality of the person you’re interviewing really shines through.

3. What is your most treasured possession?

This is hard. I’m really materialistic and attached to so many things – I think it stems from moving around a lot when I was little because my dad was in the forces. My wedding and engagement rings are very precious, and I’d be devastated if anything happened to the imprints we have of BB’s and Little B’s feet when they were babies. Then there’s a dipped horseshoe we were given from the park where we had our wedding reception. Basically the list goes on…

4. What are you scared of?

The dark. I’ve always hated it, and always have to sleep with light coming from somewhere. If I don’t I have terrible night frights.

5. If you could learn a new skill what would it be and why?

How to do front crawl properly. I swim once a week for an hour doing breast stroke, and always marvel at the people ploughing past me doing front crawl. I won’t lie, it’s not for health reasons – I’d like to learn so I can have wonderfully sculpted arms like they do.

6. Do you play any musical instruments?

I can tinkle on a piano and strum a guitar but I wouldn’t call it playing. Words and writing are more my thing.

7. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Right here in England. I’ve lived in Germany, Spain and Japan but there’s nowhere else I’d rather be than here. The older I get, the closer to home I’d rather be.

8. What is your biggest regret?

I’m sure I’m supposed to say something deep and meaningful here, but I don’t have any major regrets. I do regret not making the most of the year off I had after BB was born – I should have sat on the sofa in my pyjamas and done nothing but nurse and play with her while watching daytime TV more. It’s only now that I’m self-employed and could only afford to have two months off after Little B was born that I realise how lucky I was.

9. Did you always want to have children?

I think so. There was a time in my 20s when I thought being a mum might not be for me, but I think ultimately I always knew I would be one day.

10. Why did you become a blogger?

I breast fed BB for almost two years and started Confessions of a Crummy Mummy as I prepared to give up breast feeding. I found it quite a wrench and an emotional time – writing about it helped.

Now that I’ve answered my 10 questions the rules state I have to write my own 10 questions and tag 10 bloggers to do the same.

I nominate:

Stacey at CraftyOrganisedMe

Megan at Truly Madly Kids

Bex at The Mummy Adventure

Mim at Mamamin

Kirsty at Something Crunchy Mummy

Ems at Its Mostly Okay

Chloe at Life Unexpected

Al and Jen at The Dad Network

Nige at DIY Daddy

And last but by no means least Misery Guts himself…

Rob at Diabetic Dad Runs

Here are my questions:

1. Fry up or cereal?
2. Have you ever met anyone famous?
3. If you had an hour to produce a signature bake, what would it be?
4. When did you start your blog and why?
5. What’s the best thing you’ve been asked to review or try out as a blogger?
6. Have you ever turned down a review or experience?
7. Is there one blogger you particularly admire, and why?
8. Where do you see your blog in five years’ time?
9. What’s your favourite holiday destination?
10. You couldn’t get through the weekend without…?

And here are the rules:

Link back to the blogger who nominated you, answer their 10 questions and add the badge to your post (I saved mine down from An Imperfect Mum’s post – feel free to do the same from mine). Write your own 10 questions and tag 10 bloggers to answer them.

I’m looking forward to seeing your posts!
